Cornell Cares Day in Ithaca

Cornell alumni at table in downtown Ithaca volunteering on Cornell Cares Day

For Cornell Cares Day, 1/8/2022, a hardy group of caring volunteers, organized by the Cornell Club of Ithaca, restocked many empty community food cabinets to help relieve some of Ithaca’s food insecurity. Although it was a cold day, spirits were high as we shared the experience of aiding our community. Among the volunteers were Cornell undergraduates, graduate students, directors, and officers from the Cornell Club of Ithaca board, and other members of the community. We gathered and distributed quite a large stockpile of food and folks occasionally sauntered up to pick up some necessities for their families even as we worked. It was a truly memorable and humbling day, and it inspired us to do more.

A few testimonials from volunteers:

“Collecting food was simple. A short email to my closest neighbors telling them I was going to be stocking the food cabinets and if they had anything to donate I would be happy to transport it resulted in an outpouring of contributions.” — Roberta

“Great time meeting new people – all coming together to address food insecurity in and around Ithaca. It was a cold day – really shows how much people care!” —Jeremy
