Cornell Club features Richard Meier ’56

Richard Meier Model Museum at Mana Contemporary and Gary Lichtenstein Editions workspace

Extraordinary Cornellians are likely active in your own backyard. We encourage you to be on the lookout for local alumni who may serve as interesting speakers or hosts for programs. In the fall of 2015, the Cornell Club of Northern New Jersey engaged famed architect Richard Meier ’56 to speak at a program at the model museum in his name.

The Cornell Club of Northern New Jersey was treated to a special night at the Richard Meier Model Museum at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, NJ. Richard Meier ’56 shared great insights into his projects and some fun stories behind a few of his buildings. The club also had a silk screen printing demonstration in the Gary Lichtenstein Editions workspace adjacent to the Model Museum. Mr. Meier and Mr. Lichtenstein collaborated on a drawing of a student housing project that Mr. Meier designed in 1974 for Cornell’s North Campus, which Mr. Lichtenstein silk screened and gave to each of the attendees—a real treat. Over 60 guests mingled throughout the galleries with amazing passed hors d’oeuvres by Encore Catering NJ including: lobster rolls, tacos, shrimp cocktail, masago tuna, and more. Alumni from all different schools were represented—undergrad and grad schools as well. Bob Balder, Executive Director of AAP NYC, introduced Mr. Meier.
