Engineering Library Transition Update

The Engineering Library has been planning for the physical move of book and journals this summer. Here is a summary of what’s been happening:

Reports were run to determine which books have circulated in the last 5 years. Circulating materials (plus all 2010 and 2011 imprints) will remain on campus; the non-circulating ones will go to the Library Annex. Duplicate materials are being withdrawn, all unique items will be kept in one of the Cornell libraries. For a subject and call number breakdown on where the books are going, see  Where Are the  Books Going?

September – December 2010
Google has been digitizing 30,000 books from our collection. 14,000 of these destined for the Annex have been delivered to the Annex after scanning.

October – December 2010
Duplicate journals sets (where there is another copy at the Annex or another Cornell library) were withdrawn. Duplicate books were withdrawn.

December 2010 – February 2011
All microfiche is cataloged and sent to the Annex. They and bound journal volumes will be accessible by document delivery.

May 23, 2011 (Monday after last day of exams)
The rest of the physical collection will move to various libraries:

Uris Library will receive 19,500; Mann 1,500; Math 3,000, and Olin 500 volumes. The Annex will receive all bound journals and the low-use books.
The reference collection will be split among various libraries, with materials not available online going to Olin and Mann reference; the rest will be going to the Annex.

Course reserve titles will be located in Uris Library Reserve Desk (starting June 2011); titles are purchased for online access whenever possible.
Journals
– most journals are online; those few not available online will move to the appropriate campus library
Videos
– most will go to the Annex but popular titles will go to the Math library; all VHS will go to the Annex.
CD’s
—Most will go to the Annex except those associated with books that are remaining on campus
Theses – print theses will be located in the Annex; all have been scanned by Google Books. Use the Thesis Finder to locate them.
