Grant Writing Assistance
At Cornell, early career faculty members with a research component to their appointments are expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research program. The PACE program is committed to helping our participants reach this goal.
The PACE directors, advisory council, mentors, and staff have many years of successful grant submission experience among them.
We can:
- facilitate professional review of your grant by a skilled science editor.
- empanel a mock study section to provide realistic feedback on your grant before you submit it.
- identify scientific mentors who can assist you in developing ideas and research aims.
- assist with developing budgets and completing the other administrative pages for an NIH grant on an as needed basis.
Preparing to submit an NIH grant?
PACE offers opportunities to hold a Mock Study Section three times a year.
Our Mock Study Sections provide realistic reviews of your grant, paneled by both Cornell and external reviewers suggested by PACE or selected by the participant. Our schedule is approximately a month or more in advance of the NIH deadlines in February, June, and October, giving you time to fine tune your submission when you need it most.
Need support in your writing process?
Join one of our regularly scheduled small group writing sessions.
Step away from your desk, distractions, and the revolving door of your office to write in a reserved room with your colleagues. Regular opportunities for feedback will be scheduled at the same time and location to give you a chance to provide and receive feedback on your working drafts from both your peers and our experienced faculty mentors.
Want to take your writing to the next level? Work with our science editor
Ms. Kallal has taught English for twelve years and edited scientific manuscripts and grants for over ten years. Grants she has edited have garnered over two million dollars a year in direct costs for the Department of Microbiology and Immunology alone. She can help sharpen rationale, significance, impact, and background information for proposals to multiple agencies, but she has particular experience with NIH/NIAID. Her approach comes from a unique combination of experience and education. With an MA in English and an MFA in Writing, she reviews grants carefully line by line but also assesses overall impact and persuasiveness. She can help identify areas where information is not clear or concise, note gaps in logic, help organize the writing to most effectively communicate the information, and offer insight into how best to avoid the common pitfalls she has observed in scientific writing. She offers participants information on best practices, as well as provides targeted feedback during one-on-one coaching sessions.
