From top to bottom: Pre-Sprouted Straw Mulch, Un-Sprouted Straw Mulch, Black Plastic Mulch, Rolled Rye, Cultivation. Plastic mulch and cultivated plots are doing well! The squash in the rolled-rye have hardly grown, probably due to N tie-up.

From top to bottom: Pre-sprouted Straw Mulch, Un-Sprouted Straw Mulch, Black Plastic Mulch, Rolled Rye, Cultivation. Luckily it was winter wheat straw so it will stay low and won’t be heading out! The pre-soaked and pre-sprouted straw is maintaining weed suppression, but it was so moldy to apply that we won’t do that again. Squash plants in the rolled rye treatments have still hardly grown and are now being overtaken by white clover and ragweed.
