Occupation

Below, the left column shows the estimated number of civilian wage earners living in Buffalo, NY (16 years or older) who work in the occupations listed in the table. The right column shows the percentage of those workers estimated to earn below $15/hour. So, the first row of the table should be read as: “There are approximately 305 Laundry and dry-cleaning workers living in Buffalo, and 100% of those workers (305 individuals) are estimated to earn below $15/hour.”

Likewise, the row labeled “Cashiers” should be interpreted as: “There are approximately 3,822 civilian workers living in Buffalo who work as Cashiers, and 83% of those workers (roughly 3,172 individuals) are estimated to earn below $15/hour.”

Disclaimer: Effective wage calculations are based on self-reported data for occupation, hours worked, and earned income from the U.S. Census American Community Survey (ACS) Public Use Microdata Samples (PUMS). Quality of the data therefore depend on how accurately respondents report this information to the Census Bureau. More details on the data and sources used in this project can be found here.
