Week 6 (7/5/22 – 7/8/22): Switching Gears

GROWS members tying up garlic to dryThis week was exciting because we completely finished planting all the beds. This means that we are switching gears more towards maintenance of the plants, and soon towards harvest. We had another member join the GROWS program, which means we are at capacity with 5 participants. We started harvesting garlic this week and I taught everyone how to tie up the garlic to dry. It was cool to see them explore how the food they regularly eat, is grown. On Thursday, Anu Rangarajan, came to visit the farm. I got to show her around and introduce her to the GROWS program members. It was really great to talk through the program and be able to get a new perspective on everything. She also brought me to meet a community organizer in Rochester who was able to give me some really great perspective on food justice in Rochester.
