Week 5 (6/27/22 – 7/1/22): Building Community

Corn growthThis week has been incredibly challenging but I’m really happy with the progress we’ve made. I think, as a group, the GROWS program is starting to build a sense of community. It’s really cool that some of them feel comfortable talking to me about things they need to help their professional development and things they have going on in their lives. On the flipside, I am learning the challenges of running a program that is built to help Shallotspeople who may be facing life challenges or legal issues. On the farm, every bed is fully planted except for two, which is a really exciting accomplishment. We are still struggling to keep the groundhogs out, and have resorted to setting up our own trap to see if we can catch the last one. We’ve also been helping the Master Gardeners to landscape the office property because we’ve received a lot of complaints about the appearance of the property, considering the fact that we run the horticulture department.
