Department of Natural Resources and the Environment Fellowships Policy

Policy for recruiting and awarding internal graduate fellowships administered by the Dept. of Natural Resources and the Environment:

The Director of Graduate Studies (DGS) and Graduate Field Assistant (GFA) will notify graduate faculty and current students of internal fellowships as these opportunities arise.  Graduate faculty are encouraged to connect current and prospective students with fellowship opportunities at the time of admission and throughout their program.  This policy is in relation to internal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (DNRE) fellowships; University (e.g. University, Diversity, etc.) level fellowship opportunities are listed on the graduate school pages links.

The GFA will keep a file on all available fellowships administered by the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, which will include:
• Criteria for eligibility
• Amount of available funding
• Application process
• Selection process
• Key faculty contacts
• Reporting requirements

The GFA will notify graduate faculty, during the summer funding application period and peak recruiting seasons, of the availability of fellowships; the procedure for submitting fellowship requests and due dates; amount of funding; and key faculty contact where appropriate.

After fellowship requests have been received, the DGS and GFA will assign and work with the faculty reviewers for the fellowships to rank the candidates based on the guidelines of the fellowship. The DGS, upon consultation with the faculty contacts and Graduate Admissions Committee, will make the final decisions on the fellowship recipients.

Examples of DNRE fellowships include: Dumond and McConkey Fellowships, Guani Family Fellowship in Conservation Biology, and Cambodian/Laotian/Vietnamese Environmental Graduate Support Fund.
