Johnes Testing Available for North Country Goat Farmers

Note from Betsy Hodge, CCE St. Lawrence County:

Attention Goat Farmers! We managed to get a grant to study the prevalence of Johnes disease in goats in Northern New York (Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis, Franklin, Clinton, and Essex Counties). We are sending this short survey to find out more about the general demographics of the goat farms in our counties and also to recruit farms for the study.

We will start with the bigger farms and add on small farms until we meet our numbers needed. If selected, we will provide free Johnes tests up to 15 random goats per farm. Goats have to be 2 years old or older. You have to be willing to do a NYSSGHAP meeting with your vet and the state vet. These are easy and informative so don’t be afraid of doing one.

You must also take the survey (link below) to be on the study. The questions are short – no writing, just multiple choice. Take the survey here: https://cornell.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3Pi0SJNINZGrLQ9

Funding for this project is provided by: Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NESARE).
