Teaching

In recent years, Giulia became very interested in combining her background and passion for plant biochemistry, pharmacology and ethnobotany. Growing up in Italy, she was exposed since early age to the study of the classics and was aware of the fundamental role played by plants in ancient civilizations.  As a result, she designed and is currently teaching different campus-based and online undergraduate’s and master’s level courses, and a eCornell Professional Certificate Program on the theme of plants and health.

Giulia is also reaching out to Cornell Alumni and families offering online, on campus courses and an Education Vacation Trips to Greece (planned for summer 2022) through the Cornell School of Adult Education (CAU). For more information see Cornell Alumni-focused courses.

Giulia’s goal as a teacher is to inspire students in the learning experience, and engage them in the process of discovery, facilitate their understanding of plant biology, help them integrate concepts of plant biochemistry, pharmacology, ethnobotany, indigenous knowledge, conservation and bioprospecting. She also aims to transmit her enthusiasm for science and the natural world, sparking their interest in the field of medicinal plants. Giulia is deeply interested to convey a knowledge and awareness of diverse cultural practices, values, and beliefs, and aims to help her students gain an understanding of their own cultural perspective. Her courses implement active learning to promote student engagement, and intend to assess an inclusive, student-centered learning environment.
