Sampling Domestic Households

The purpose of this study is to identify areas in the domestic household that can cross-contaminate breastmilk or infant formula.  This is done by collecting surface swabs from over 100 domestic households within the continental United States.  Read more about our project here!

This project is no longer enrolling.  Thank you to all who enrolled!!

Logistics:
  • The project began in June 2024.
  • This project included brief surveys (5 min) about cleaning habits, as well as some demographic information (e.g., pets present in the household, approximate ages).
  • The Snyder Lab mailed sampling kits.
  • Participants sampled 10 designated locations in your household (e.g., sinks, floors) a total of 3 times (once every other month: approximately June, August, October).
  • Participants sent back the samples in a pre-addressed, pre-paid box.
  • All information will be deidentified. You can receive information about your household, if interested
  • Please see our instructional video for guidance in swabbing.

We will contact you with further information if you are selected.  Sometimes we get more volunteers than we can work with. If this is the case, we will keep your name on reserve for future sampling dates and surveys.
