MAE 4272 Information For Fall 2014

On August 22, students will no longer be able to add/drop electronically in MAE 4272.

A “trading spaces” sheet for MAE 4272 will be posted on the bulletin board between 110 and 112 Upson.  You will be asked to note the lab you are enrolled in and the lab you need to fit your schedule.  After you contact the person you wish to switch labs with and agree to the trade, you will need to both come together to 104 Upson to see Nanette to complete the paperwork.  Please come to 104 Upson if you have any questions or concerns.

Graduating in 2015 with MechE (or IM with M.E.)?

First Class of MAE 4300, Wednesday, August 27, 12:20:

1)  Seniors will be presented with a brief workshop about audits, senior design, and what paperwork will be required to graduate, also, Q&A’s;  2) senior group photo @ 12:45 on steps of Duffield (facing west, Carpenter Hall).  Business casual attire ;  3) Pizza in Upson Lounge at 1:00.

If you intend to graduate in 2015, either January (after completing the Fall 2014 term), or in May, or August 2015, and you are not attending MAE 4300, you are invited to join your classmates for the workshop, group photo, and pizza.

MAE 4340 and 4341 Lab and Enrollment Information

Professor Shepherd has contacted all students accepted into Innovative Product Design via Digital Manufacturing, MAE 4340/4341.  4341 is the senior design version.  Emily Tompkins will be e-mailing the accepted students with a pin number to enroll electronically after classes begin.

We have added a lab, meeting on Mondays from 7:30pm – 9:25 pm.  Both the lecture and lab will be meeting in Rhodes Hall 253.

If you have not yet had a final audit, please come and see me after 1:00 each afternoon until Slope Day.

Independent Majors will not need their graduation requirements reviewed and approved by MAE–those students should inquire with their Independent Major office  (see Cynthia Pakkala in 167 Olin)), if not already contacted.

Instructions for Submission of Design Report:

  • Senior Design Report: Submit to your senior design instructor.
  • Senior Design Report Content Summary Form: Compose responses to the nine questions on the content summary form and attach them it. Submit this form with the responses, to your design instructor for his/her review and signature. After the instructor’s signature has been obtained, submit the content summary  form, with your responses, to Emily Tompkins, in 108 Upson Hall.
  • If the instructor is unavailable to sign (ex. traveling) you may send your responses to the 9 questions as an email attachment and ask them to approve via email. Please forward the approval email to Emily, at eft24@cornell.edu, or cc Emily on the initial email.

Seniors: Commencement Ceremony Slide Show for May 2014

We would like someone to coordinate the collection of photos for a slideshow to be screened in Bailey Hall at the May 25th MAE Commencement Ceremony.  We’ll need someone to create the slideshow and add music.  This will be shown as guests and students enter Bailey Hall and exit Bailey Hall.  Please let Nanette know if there are any students who would like to coordinate this effort.  You may want to incorporate short (approx. 10-20 second videos) into this mix.

MechE Senior Announcements

MechE Final Senior Audits will begin next week.  Seniors will be receiving a sign-up meeting schedule which will be sent out for the remainder of the Spring semester.

-No need to complete another graduation checklist–they are on file.  Meeting should take less than 10 minutes.  Just filling in the Fall 2013 grades and courses for Spring 2014.

-Advisor Approved Electives should be approved by May 1.  Students can either seek approval via e-mail or complete this form  advisor_approved_electives

-You will be asked to record how you want your name said at MAE Ceremony in Bailey Hall – first and last name, or first, middle and last.

-Each graduating student will be issued four tickets for guests for the Bailey Hall event in early May.  Students should establish a page to register if fewer or more than the four tickets are needed.  Students are responsible for exchanging tickets.

-If seniors intend to make a 3-4 minute video to be shown at the Commencement Ceremony in Bailey Hall, MAE has a camera available.   Video needs to be completed at least two weeks prior to Commencement, May 25.  Please let Nanette know which students are leading this effort.  Students may also create a longer video for class distribution.

-If you would like to present a brief speech at Bailey Hall (less than 5 minutes), or would like to nominate a senior classmate, please complete this form and submit it to Nanette by March 21 –   Senior Representative 2014 Nomination Form

Bioengineering Minor – designed for students who want to become conversant with the concepts of bioengineering while building on the strength of a traditional engineering discipline. The program encompasses biomedical bioprocess, bioenvironmental, and biological engineering, as well as biotechnology.
