Two of DEI’s areas of expertise are degradation of nuclear power plant materials and thermal hydraulics / thermal performance of nuclear power systems. This position would provide engineering analysis support to DEI project managers and subject matter experts for materials degradation and thermal hydraulics / thermal performance projects, and may also be called upon to provide support to other emergent DEI projects. Engineering analysis areas may include stress analysis, fracture mechanics, modeling/simulation of materials degradation processes, thermal hydraulics, and numerical analysis of other physical systems and phenomena. The responsibilities of this position include drafting of calculations and reports documenting analyses, as well working with other DEI engineers to produce various types of related assessment and guidance documents for industry clients.

DEI is seeking recent graduates and those graduating by August 2020 with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering (or theoretical and applied mechanics, or engineering physics with mechanical focus). Skills/attributes of value are:

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to write and execute custom analysis codes using programming languages such as Python and Fortran
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Detail-oriented and self-directed
  • Solidworks or similar 3D CAD proficiency
  • Coursework, experience, and/or interest in learning finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a plus
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time (e.g., for Customer / industry meetings)
  • Ability to pass a drug screening test and background security investigation
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Compensation and benefits:

  • $70,000 to $80,000 annually
  • Annual 15% retirement plan contribution (no employee contribution required)
