FREE – MAE Opens Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on ANSYS Simulations Starting June 1

MAE is offering a massive open online course (MOOC) on ANSYS simulations  at edx.org.  It is entitled “A Hands-on Introduction to Engineering Simulations” and will run for six weeks starting June 1, 2016. See:
  https://www.edx.org/course/hands-introduction-engineering-cornellx-engr2000x#

The MOOC is free and should appeal to engineering students across majors. Additionally, interested students can get a verified certificate from Cornell and edX for $49.

The ANSYS case studies are drawn from five MAE courses. One of the case studies has been developed in collaboration with a SpaceX engineer. The course is pegged at the level of a freshman-level introduction to engineering analysis and simulations. It provides a holistic view of the MAE curriculum. It should also be of interest to non-MAE’s and non-Cornell folks.  Please spread the word.
Highlights include:
-Use of selected simulation tool (ANSYS) as a problem-solving platform and a learning platform
-Integration of the learning of fundamentals with tool use through online learning
-A common approach to finite-element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
-A common  approach to problems involving different physics: structural mechanics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer
