Week 4

On monday we went to a vineyard that is known to be infected with red blotch virus. We collected leaf samples from ten infected vines, and sent them out to a virologist for his research project. Next we went to one of our replicated mycorrhizae trials to collect the final set of data on shoot width. The rest of the week was spent shoot positioning and wire clipping in the research vineyard. For shoot positioning, we want the shoots to stand straight up and not cross over other shoots. This maximizes sunlight exposure and surface area for pesticide spray coverage. We put many clips on the wires in order to help the tall shoots stand up straight. It is almost time for the super tall vines to be hedged.
