Week 3

We started off this week by checking our insect traps at all the vineyards we had put them up at two weeks ago. These traps are designed to catch grapevine pests that are not known to live on Long Island, and our job is to find out if they are here yet. So far, we did not catch any of the insects we are looking for (which is good!) but our traps will remain up for a few more weeks. We also did not catch any spotted lantern flies, which do live on Long Island but have not yet made their way to the vineyards. A big portion of this week was spent tending to our research vineyard since the vines are growing rapidly and beginning to flower. I did a lot of shoot positioning and moving catch wires higher up to support the new growth. Finally, we went back to one of our replicated mycorrhizae trials to collect our second data on shoot length. I got a quick lesson about Microsoft Excel, and I began entering our data. I am excited to find out if there are significant differences in shoot growth in the mycorrhizae treated vines.
