Why Android is Winning the African market

In the USA and many first world countries, iPhones seem to be the people’s favorite. It is not very surprising that they are in high demand even though very expensive. On the other hand, in Africa, Android phones seems to own the vast majority of the market. This can be explained by various reasons. One reason is that iPhones cost way more than Samsung phones on the average. Another major reason is actually because of the trends in these societies.
When it comes to choice of phones, people in Africa usually try to get what they have seen their friends use. They are less likely to get an iPhone because not many of their friends or family use iPhones. People like to get what their friends have because then, they can get the benefit of receiving assistance when they cannot figure out how to use it. Also, when they have a problem with their phone, chances are that, their friends have seen the same problem before. So when it is time for someone to get a new phone, they barely think of the more expensive and less familiar choice of getting an iPhone. They immediately go for what they see others use. And with this cascade, when a new android phone comes out, for instance a new Samsung phone people get tend to want to get it.
Of late, there have been countless issues about the the new galaxy note 7 phones exploding and hurting their users. It is interesting to know that, even with these damages, people are still more willing to buy Samsung phones than iPhones.
