Emergency Preparedness and Response

Emergency Preparedness and Injury Prevention, including building climate resilience, supporting pandemic prevention, and focusing on evidence-based actions to reduce opioid deaths.  

    • With support from NSF RAISE – IHBME we’re exploring ways to decrease uncertainty in COVID-19 forecasting models to augment COVID-19 decision-making for public health officials. Summary
    • With support from the USDA, we explored how political restrictions on public health emergency orders increased COVID-19 mortality in the U.S. states. Policy Brief 
    • In partnership with the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), and CDC’s Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics, we’ve worked to build preparedness for COVID-19, Flu, and RSV among health departments in the U.S.
    • In partnership with the NYS Department of Health and HRI, we led capacity development with a large cohort of community-based organizations in rural NYS, helping them build resilience and readiness related to emergent public health emergencies. Resource Guide
    • In partnership with the NYS Department of Health, we designed and delivered open-access public health leadership training to New York State residents, equipping them to become community health liaisons and ambassadors, able to support and serve family, neighbors, and community members through public health needs. Training (11 languages)
    • In partnership with the Northeast Regional Food Safety Center of Excellence, we support capacity development to improve outbreak readiness and response.
