Pest-Predator Dynamics in Urban Ecosystems

Welcome

Hello and welcome to the Conservation Biocontrol on Urban Farms blog page. My name is El Robeck and I am a Cornell Cooperative Extension intern. I am an Entomology major and this summer I will be monitoring, collecting, and identifying different pest and predator species across urban farms in New York City. I am incredibly excited to get to know urban agriculture and ecology in greater detail and I can’t wait to see what incredible people I get to meet through this project. Through the monitoring of different arthropod species in urban farm contexts, this project aims at understanding how to implement predators as potential methods of biocontrol for common agricultural pests. Additionally, this project seeks to evaluate how proximity to insect-friendly habitats affects the occurrence of beneficial predators and pollinators in plant crop beds.
