Welcome to Team Bee

Team Bee’s abstract goal in this project was to improve transmedia literacy and instill Project-Based Learning at Ithaca High School. To do this, we worked directly with our stakeholders at Ithaca High to help teachers transfer out of the standard test-based education system. As COVID-19 arose, we had to change the direction of our project to address the needs that come with transferring out of the standard test-based education system to Virtual Learning.

          Project Report

In our report, we go over our experiences working with Ithaca High School, as well as the unexpected turn our project faced.  We began the project with the abstract idea–improving the standard education system in rural schools–and a concrete plan of execution.  After two field visits to Ithaca High where we worked personally with both teachers and students, we were well underway with our goal of implementing Project-Based Learning and improving transmedia literacy.

However, once COVID-19 broke out, our project was turned upside down.  Now being unable to work directly with our stakeholders, we had to change the goal of our project.  With Virtual Learning on the rise, we were able to expand our goal from just rural schools to all stakeholders being affected by social distancing.  By proposing projects, systems for sharing, and frameworks for analyzing and grading, our team managed to change the strategy but still fulfill the overarching goal of improving the current education system.

Our proposed solution to improve transmedia literacy in virtual learning is as follows:

  • Project Ideas
  • Project Showcasing
    • ePortfolios and associated project information folders
  • Project Grading Options
    • Analyzing tool CAT
