Stage 2 Clinical Experiences Focus Team
Getting students into the clinics earlier is a popular idea that has emerged in numerous discussions about the Clinical Curriculum Redesign. The goals of our team are to:
- Develop a long-term plan for incorporating substantial clinical experiences into Stage 2 of the curriculum.
- Create opportunities for current 3rd year students to participate in clinical experiences to better prepare them for clinical rotations and learn how to best support students in this transition period.
Current Projects
- 3rd-Year Clinical Experiences Course – This course offering allows 3rd-year students to gain clinical experience before their clinical year and allows clinical services to explore ways to support student learning during Stage 2. Students can choose from 12 clinical services providing these opportunities.
- Development of Stage 2 Clinical Experiences – The long-term goal is for students in their 2nd and 3rd years to have substantial clinical experiences that supplement and reinforce their learning in courses. This will require us to develop an educational and logistical plan for scheduling student time during Stage 2. We will use the 3rd-year Clinical Experiences Courses to pilot ways to maximize student learning.
