The Clinical Reasoning Focus Team includes faculty from all three stages of the DVM curriculum who have supported this competency domain in the curriculum and share a passion for clinical reasoning.

Our goals are to

• Develop a plan for a cohesive progression of clinical reasoning instruction and assessment throughout the DVM curriculum.
• Educate and engage faculty to help develop Stage 2 course structure and learning activities that support the Clinical Reasoning and Decision-making competency domain. 

• Developing the ability to synthesize and prioritize information toward developing a problem representation in Block III (Lead – Kelly Lyboldt)
• Introducing fundamental principles of clinical reasoning in Block I (Lead – Marnie FitzMaurice)
• Using clinical platforms (ex. EzyVet) in Block IV PBL cases to enhance student engagement and readiness for clinical rotations (Lead – Patrick Carney)
• Investigating a platform for case-based learning (Leads – Dan Fletcher and Meredith Miller)
• Developing a course to parallel 3rd-year Clinical Experiences that allows students to learn the clinical reasoning process from cases they observe in clinics (Lead – Marnie FitzMaurice) 
• Implementing clinical presentations as a framework for learning in Block V (Leads – Meredith Miller, Alyssa Chandler and Jonathan Wood)
• Developing instruction and assessment materials for PIPs/Clinical Reasoning and Decision Making CAT (Leads – Meredith Miller and Dan Fletcher)
• Creating a faculty development plan to help faculty support the clinical reasoning progression and create continuity across stages of the curriculum (team effort)
