Professor Mildred Warner presented the 2021 edition of the Margarita McCoy Public Lecture, hosted by the California State Polytechnic University at Pomona’s College of Environmental Design. In their inaugural lecture of the Margarita McCoy Public Lecture program, Professor Warner presented, “Pushing Paradigms in Planning to Allow Attention to Gender Issues”, which shared her ongoing work, “Planning Across Generations.
The public lecture program hosted by Cal Poly Pomona was established to honor the late Professor Emerita Margarita McCoy, who served as a member of the Urban and Regional Planning faculty and additionally, the chair of the department from 1976-89. Her appointment as chair at the time was historic, making her the first woman to ever chair a planning program in the United States.
Warner is also the recipient of the 2020 Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning Margarita McCoy Award for the Advancement of Women in Planning, which she received at the virtual ACSP Conference back in November. Nominated by the ACSP Faculty Women’s Interest Group, Warner credited her work to the group in allowing her to contribute back to the field focusing on improving equity in planning.
