Introduction to the Southern Italy Blog series

For our last overnight field trip, we headed to southern Italy for five days visiting four different cities – Matera , Alberobello, Bari, Pompeii and Napoli. With quite an ambitious itinerary, we weren’t able to stay at each place for very long, but it was still wonderful to be in the warm sun, to see something (anything) besides the route between my apartment and studio that had been the staple of my visual palette for the weeks previous (and probably the weeks following). I am going to be separating this blog post into several ones, so that you’re able to read about our experiences in the cities you are most excited to hear about! To give you a brief overview before you head on to the other posts – it was fun, it was warm, and there were many naps taken on the bus rides to and from our destinations. Coming back to Rome marked the beginning of the end of our semester, and we are all now, sadly and hesitantly, preparing for our final exams, reviews, and papers.
