Human and animal health – “zoobiquity”

A friend alerted me to this wonderful essay which is adapted from the book “Zoobiquity: What Animals Can Teach us About Health and the Science of Healing.”

Here is a blurb from the book description:

“Joining forces with science journalist Kathryn Bowers, Natterson-Horowitz employs fascinating case studies and meticulous scholarship to present a revelatory understanding of what animals can teach us about the human body and mind. “Zoobiquity” is the term the authors have coined to refer to a new, species-spanning approach to health. Delving into evolution, anthropology, sociology, biology, veterinary science, and zoology, they break down the walls between disciplines, redefining the boundaries of medicine.”

This terrific essay powerfully presents the case to the general public for the importance of Veterinary medicine to human health. As part of a veterinary institution, we can really appreciate that it is truly one world, one biology and one health. My favorite T-shirt that the vet students wear sports the slogan “Real doctors treat more than one species”.
