One aspect that stood out from the panel I participated in was the immense dedication of the parents and educators who are striving to seek out the best in science and education for their daughters and their struggle when science education doesn’t have the same kind of infrastructure as other extracurricular activities. One father had not been able to get his school interested in promoting the event or organizing a bus; he had bought not only his two daughters, but a few of their friends as well, so they could experience the event.

Another discussion was how to maintain the interest and focus of young girls on science education as they experience competing interests and pulls on their time.

Events like the EYH conference are terrific for stimulating interest, introducing topics, and forming connections; the impact will be greatly enhanced with sustained involvement and follow-up from the student’s local educational community of teachers and parents.
