Quote of the day

“Success hinges less on getting everything right than on how you handle getting things wrong.” Hara Estroff Marano

In the context of the laboratory, one could say: “Success hinges less on your experiment working as anticipated, than how you handle the situation when the experiment doesn’t pan out the way you intended.”

Is it the technical execution of the procedures used? Is there a precise record of the protocols used?

Did the experiment include positive and negative controls that allow meaningful interpretation of the data?

Should one question the assumptions underlying the planning of the experiment?

How does one plan the next step(s): addressing potential factors contributing to the experimental outcome, while taking previous experience/data into account?
