Week 8: Presentation Preparation and Farm Visits

This week was quite eventful, working on the field balance presentation and going to farms for tours and filming.

I have a presentation with another intern, Joe, who is stationed at the Miner Institute in Northern NY.  In our presentation we are showing the objectives, methods, and results of our field balance projects that we both have been working on throughout the summer.  As the field balances is a theoretical adaptive management tool for farms to use, it is great to have results from the balances and explain how the tool could potentially be used. (I will update on how the presentation went as it is on Monday.) Pictured below is a graph showing results of a field balance assessment.

This graph shows individual field balances on one farm.  Included are the nutrient inputs and the uptake from each field.

Also this week, the team was able to get out of the office and tour some farms.  The main purpose of the tours was to understand the operations that we are working with, but also to do some filming on the farm to be featured within the Animal Science network.  These farms have been great to work with and have allowed us to make the best use of their operations both for research and communications.

In the coming week, the team will be visiting another farm for filming and also heading to Northern NY to visit the Miner Institute.
