market, use them for baking, canning, or freeze them it is hard to resist the apple bounty this state is known for, so make gathering apples and making them shine a family activity. Here are some recipes, tips for storing, and great site for identifying your apples.

It is hard to beat a perfect apple pie, but my favorite apple recipe is a Harvest spice cake that showcases apples better than anything I have ever found. This moist spiced cake is great with coffee, as a stand-alone dessert, with ice cream, glazed or plain. It is the perfect taste of fall and our apple crop.

Apple Harvest Cake

4c. Diced apples
2c. Sugar
3c. Flour
1c. Oil
2 eggs
1c. Chopped nuts
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla

 Directions

Mix apples and sugar let stand 1 hour.
Sift together flour, soda, and spices.
Beat eggs, add oil and vanilla.
Add apples mixture to egg mixture and stir.
Add flour mixture and stir.
Add nuts and stir.
Bake in a greased and floured bunt pan for 45 to 60 minutes at 3500.
