Week 9: 7/26-8/01: “Final Preparations for the GIS Playdate”

This week was back to the general routine of my internship throughout the earlier part of the summer, we had meetings on that Monday and Thursday (Which we hadn’t had for quite some time) to touch base with our teammate Kat Leo, who would be hosting the GIS Playdate in Orange County. We discussed logistics in terms of travel to arrive in Orange County, ie. staying in a hotel for an evening, as well as the itinerary and necessary materials for a productive day. This weeek, Susan and I were working closely on the design of the days’ schedule, and potential organization in order to have a cohesive activity from 9:00 to 4:00, full of GIS and interesting science! There wasn’t too much in way of assignments for myself as I had been drafting the GIS schedule a few weeks previously and was essentially just going back and forth with Susan for a few days getting the finishing touches on the activity design down, not to mention that I was starting to study up for the finals of my summer courses. This was definitely another one of those, ‘calm before the storm weeks’.

However, as you will see, even the best laid plans don’t necessarily go exactly as we expect, especially when you’re working with youth!

See you next week,
