Week 3: 6/14-6/20

Monday 6/14: After starting my day off with a quick breakfast, I had my check in meeting with teammates Kelly Adams, Charles Malone, and Kat Leo, where we quickly discussed the plans for the week. The Career Ex workshop is coming up this thursday, so I was tasked with getting the finishing touches on the introductory survey ready so that it can be presented, which at this point is more or less just boiling down to making sure that everyone has access to everything so final edits can be made by my team! We also got to see a pretty cool app by Esri called ‘Relive’ which Kelly’s husband actually ended up using on a drive fundraiser with his motorcycle group. It gave an awesome visualization to the path that his group traveled, as well as some landmarks, such as his point of maximum elevation, top speed, some of the towns he drove through, as well as pictures at a few points along the journey. It seemed pretty interesting, so I thought that I’d download it and give it a try, who knows, maybe you’ll be seeing it here sometime soon!

Tuesday 6/15: Today was mostly just spent working on setting up the introductory survey123 and getting the survey data points linked to the map, in addition to that, we had our 3rd PYD meeting, which focused on developing ‘sparks’ or passions within youth, as always, it was awesome to see so many dedicated educators!

Wednesday 6/16: Another quiet day at the office (my house), a few technical issues, but nothing extremely drastic.

Thursday 6/17: Today was the day that Career Ex started! It was an interesting event to get to sit in on and participate in a little bit, with all sorts of people, from professors, to graduate students, youth, all in one space. There were some ice breakers exchanged, and the initial introductions, we split up into our breakout rooms to talk more closely with some of our guest speakers, I was particularly interested by one of the graduate students, who was researching materials science and crystallography, which is a branch of chemistry that I’m pretty interested in as well! Following Career Ex, there was also a PYD meeting, and on top of that, my weekly check in with my supervisors. We spent the meeting setting up plans for my arrival back in Ithaca, where we discussed a collaborative meeting we’d be having with a fellow internship group, titled ‘Playful Plants’, it seems strange to be saying it from home in California, but I’m pretty excited to see what summer in Ithaca has to offer!

Friday 16/18: Today was all about getting ready, I hung out with some of my close friends and started packing, I also had to go shopping for a Father’s Day gift, since we were going to be celebrating it early this year (I’m scheduled to leave on the 20th)

Next week should have all sorts of interesting stuff, my summer classes are also about to get started, so I hope its not too much on my plate, I’m also thinking of incorporating more photos and maybe even some audio into the future blog posts.

See you around,

Rob
