Eighth Week

My last week was definitely my busiest week. The Cornell trip finally arrived but I was also still helping out with the summer youth employment program.

The Cornell trip was a complete success. We had three youth attend from Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter School that had previously been involved in 4-H. We stayed overnight in Mews Hall and ate in the dining halls. The first day we arrived and walked around campus then went straight into activities. We visited the Fistulated Cow in the Morrison Hall, and the youth had a chance to touch the inside of the cow and learn the biology and more about the Vet program in Cornell. We then continued to the Chemistry department were we had a half hour tour around the laboratories and then a half hour of different chemistry demos. The youth really enjoyed seeing real life experiments. The next day we explored the Lab of Ornithology trails, observed the feeding garden and peeked into the telescopes to see different wildlife. Our last scheduled activity was a visit to the Johnson Museum of Art that included a guided tour and a hands on activity the youth got a chance to recreate an artwork we had seen in the museum.

It was amazing to see the conclusion of all my hardwork this summer and see how much the youth enjoyed the experience.

This same week in Cultivating Community I led a training in Resume building. An introduction to what it is, what is a good example vs bad example and we practiced how to describe the summer experience in their own resume. I also got a chance to say goodbye and saw the impact I had on the program. At the end of this week I am feeling extremely accomplished and so grateful for being able to contribute to the great work that CCE of Monroe County is doing.
