Class correspondents serve a vital role in class communications and have one of the most visible class officer positions. Each class has at least one correspondent (and up to three) charged with writing the class column in the Class Notes. To draft class columns, correspondents use updates gathered from classmates via forms that alumni choose to submit along with their dues payments. Correspondents may also utilize news gathered: at events; by fellow officers; from classmate friends; or through class website or emails. Many classes also ask their correspondents to publicize class events or activities in their columns. Class correspondents must be committed to spending time collecting and reading news of classmates and writing about it in a lively, entertaining tone. They must meet strict deadlines six times a year and remain in regular contact with fellow officers as well as staff from Class, Student and Young Alumni Programs and Cornellians.
