The “BI Virtual Lab” is a class lab built using Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host modern BI tools. The lab consists of AWS AppStreams, which are virtual desktops the students can access using any device from any location. Each student receives their own AppStream for the duration of the class. The AppStreams have Oracle SQL Developer, Tableau, and WhereScape RED installed and configured to work with the class database. The class database is an AWS Oracle RDS database with a database account for each student with access to create tables, views, stored procedures, and other objects. The class database also contains many snapshots of sample data sets for use with the individual assignments and team projects. The BI Virtual Lab also includes Boomi where students will design a data integration between the class database and SalesForce.
The BI Virtual Lab is designed to give students maximum exposure to data and tools so they may apply the concepts learned in class using industry leading tools.
The BI Lab is made possible by generous donations of software and services by the following companies:
- Tableau’s data visualization software is provided through the Tableau for Teaching program. tableau.com/data-visualization-software
- WhereScape RED, Data Warehouse Automation tool, is being provided by wherescape.com
