Law and Political Activism: A Conversation with President of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund Janai Nelson

A podcast conducted by Abigail Regis. I had the honor to interview Janai Nelson, President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. In addition, to serving as the 8th President of LDP, she is a legal professor at St. Johns and is regularly seen on and writes for CNN, MSNBC, NPR, BBC, and more. She is also a renowned academic scholar published in numerous law journals, focusing on election law and voter rights. In this podcast, I explored Mrs. Nelson’s rise to leadership and more. She spoke about bringing a black women’s maternal style to leadership, having a specific support group for different aspects of her life, and being unapologetically authentic. My favorite piece of advice from Mrs. Nelson was when she spoke about moving through the world “fierce with grace.” It was my pleasure to interview such a pioneer in the legal-political profession. She is truly an inspiration and a force of nature.
