I was very honored to interview Ms. Gloria Taylor, a Black woman who has made immeasurable amounts of change in her community. As an educator, first lady, politician, and activist, Taylor was able to be the change that she wanted to see in a variety of different ways. She spoke a lot about how she believed that education was the first step in improving the lives of low-income and marginalized communities. She decided to stay in this field for over thirty years working as an educator and then moving into administration. Throughout her time spreading knowledge to the community, she also wore the hat of being the First Lady of Plainfield, New Jersey. She explained that even though her husband was the one in politics, she still had a role in decision-making. She was not a wife that stayed silent behind her husband, but she was his partner. Years after he died, she was approached to join the City Council. She was extremely hesitant, but she did not let her skepticism stop her. She accepted the role and carried it with esteemed grace. Her experiences taught her how powerful women are, specifically Black women. She believes strongly that the key to change is empowering ourselves and our community. This podcast taught me that my potential is far greater than the sky and that you can move mountains if you believe in yourself and never give up on your goals. I am deeply grateful and inspired, and I hope that everyone who listens shares the same sentiments.
