Kristen Clarke: Striving for Social Justice and Equality Under Law
Kiya McDuffie
I had the privilege of speaking with Ms. Kristen Clarke who is the President and Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights under Law which is an organization that addresses civil rights injustices all over the nation some of which include voting rights, criminal justice, economic justice and more.
Her career of fighting for equal rights is inspirational, and we talked about her background and why she was so interested in pursuing a career in civil rights as a young person. She spoke about her childhood, education and noted her parents and upbringing as crucial factors in why she has been so successful. We spoke about challenges that the 2020 election was facing as well her expectations for the next President.
I am thankful that I had the opportunity to sit down with Ms. Clarke, as she has continued throughout her career to fight for voting rights and other basic liberties and she has also stood as an example of a black female leader in the legal world which has served as an inspiration to me.
