Public Policy First Assignment Sheet
Topic Paper Assignment:
Your first paper will outline an effective question on your topic of choice. It will:
a. Be on a public policy topic (public policy broadly defined)
b. Draw on empirical data to investigate the topic.
c. Focus on a causal relationship.
d. Allow for generalization from its analysis, in that the answer should apply to more than the specific facts studied.
e. Be worth studying, by which I mean that it should be both interesting and new.
In the paper, you should lay out your topic, give enough background to inform the reader, lay out what question you will be answering with the analysis, explain why this is important to study, and explain how it meets the requirements of a-d (above).
First part of this assignment is to meet with your tutor to discuss your topic.
Form: 1500 word minimum. Sensible font, margins, etc. Discuss with your tutor in what form you will hand it in.
