Followup to Thursday’s Class

Nate Silver on same-sex marriage and political support:

Why are senators shifting their positions so rapidly? Obviously, this mirrors the shift in opinion among the general public to some degree. But while the public’s increase in support for same-sex marriage has been exceptionally linear and steady, the number of senators endorsing it has increased at exponential rates over the last few years, with a remarkable jump in the last two weeks when a cascade of senators announced their support.

Worth a read.

Having just had my lengthy post erased by the spam catcher, I’ll try again concisely.

The RNC reaffirms their anti-gay marriage stance. I’m curious to see the stance Republican nominees in blue states will take in the upcoming elections.

Interesting caveat: Dick Cheney supports gay marriage on the state level as a continuance of the freedoms endowed to Americans. Will this position be adopted by tea party identifying politicians?

Tim, you’re exactly right to highlight the problems that GOP reps in blue states are going to have with this. The equivalent is Dem reps in red states and gun control.

Note that Dick Cheney’s daughter is gay, so he’s like Rob Portman of Ohio in that respect.
