Field crickets (Gryllus spp.) eat one or more small holes into fruit (1/16″ diameter or smaller). Green fruit tends to be more damaged than ripe fruit. Both adult and immature crickets may feed on berries. Cricket feeding wounds are an excellent point of entry for fruit rots.
Secretive and shy by nature, crickets are not frequently caught in the act of feeding on berries. If crickets are suspected, look for them under the mulch and listen for their characteristic chirping.
The damage below appears to have been done by crickets.
