Strawberries: Plants are wilting and collapsing in a young planting, poor and uneven growth, interior of crowns brown

Cooler injury – Storing plants at too cold a temperature (below 28F) will injure crowns and result in poor early growth. Often a pattern in the field can be seen, corresponding to affected bundles of 25 plants. Crowns that suffer cooler injury are brown on the interior when cut in half lengthwise.

Strawberry crown cut lengthwise to reveal dark, pink-tan center.
