Cornell ASAP coordinates an annual trip to Washington D.C. Before the trip we prepare individualized pitches around a science policy topic you care about. We meet with Congressional offices on Capitol Hill to deliver our pitches and hear about science policy initiatives lawmakers are working on. We also have a chance to visit federal agencies and NGOs, including the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship.
Here’s what past participants have to say:
“This trip is an excellent opportunity to hone your science communication skills with real policy makers and see how decisions are made in DC. The trip will leave you feeling more excited about the impact your science can have and about how important it is to keep producing high quality science.”
“Are you looking for ways to make your work feel more ‘impactful’? This trip will give you practice on walking into a room and communicating your research to someone who knows nothing about your work within 90 seconds.“
