Empire State Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society
2009-2010 Scholarship
This scholarship competition is open to students who will be in their sophomore, junior, or senior year during Fall 2009/Spring 2010 and attending an accredited college or university in New York State. Students should be pursuing a major in Agriculture, Environmental, Natural Resources Conservation or related fields of study.
Two scholarships, each in the amount of $1000, are available. Scholarship winners will also receive a one-year student membership in the Soil and Water Conservation Society, and a subscription to the Journal of Soil and Water Conservation.
The Empire Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society is a multi-disciplinary membership organization that advocates for the protection, enhancement, and sustainable use of soil, water, and natural resources. Through education and example, we promote an ethic that recognizes the interdependence of people and the environment.
HOW TO APPLY:
Entries shall consist of an official copy of the applicant’s college transcript, and a short, typewritten essay describing the applicant’s:
1. Career interest in the conservation of natural resources, and
2. Previous volunteer or work experience in the conservation of natural resources.
One supporting reference relating to the applicant’s interest in the conservation field may be submitted with the application.
Entries will be judged on the student’s academic accomplishments, and the content of the typewritten essay. SWCS membership affiliation will be considered in the application process. Students with demonstrated accomplishments and/or interests in the field of soil and water conservation are encouraged to apply.
