Kosher living day 4

You know, I knew there would be options but today really lifted me up!  After whining all day yesterday about being cold, I stepped out with some of my (Catering) team and headed to Appel.  At the Kosher station I was greeted with a big smile, hot lamb stew, Matzo Ball soup, Spinach & Mushroom quiche, barbecued beans and roasted potatoes-and I..ATE..IT..ALL.  HA! A colleague from the Bronx shared with me an insightful story and reminded me of the meaning behind Unleavened Bread and I was further lifted up by some of the conversation and knowledge of kosher practices at my table.   Oh-and the picture?  I was so hungry I remembered halfway through-and it would not have looked as appetizing as it was!

I left lunch feeling fulfilled by the meal and the friendship-maybe I should make time for a good lunch more often….after Reunions.

Kosher Day2 @Northstar, 3 @ Bear Necessities

kosherday2I feel at odds because for me, traveling to nearby Kosher destinations not only takes me away from my duties, but it IS SO SO COLD outside-and there are (limited) kosher options at Bear Necessities-but they’re cold–and I’M COLD.  A hot kosher lunch would be ideal and I know the selection at 104 West!  is outstanding but I choose to stay in and keep warm.  I had a variety of salads yesterday and tried the cabbage roll and a commissary salad today.  I wonder..if the students feel limited as I did because I didn’t want to face the weather or if they’re just so used to enduring the walking that they don’t notice, and I’d like to ask.

Kosher living Day 1

So for me, the challenge was less about finding items I could eat as a Kosher student, but much more about “I need to eat QUICK”-where to turn??  Turns out, kosher options are readily available at retail locations and are convenient to grab..IF you know what is kosher/OU certified and where such destinations as 104 West! reside.  HOW have I been a Manager in Dining this long, and I still struggled to park…and walk…to 104!!  Facing the brutal cold temperatures to get a fresh kosher meal are less convenient with my schedule, but well worth it!  Once inside, both the team and guests were very inviting and the offerings were too much! Needless to say, noone left hungry!

We won't go hungry on this campus!
