Dear Romance Studies Faculty, Graduate Students and Staff,

As we begin our first week of mandated remote work, I hope this message finds you all well. As I’m sure you all know, we are now prohibited from going to campus due to the Governor’s Executive Order, New York on PAUSE which went into effect last night. In the event you discover you need materials, equipment or use of equipment that is located on campus, please contact me and Edmundo Paz Soldan, and we will do what we can to help.

Please note that the Library is now providing only online services in order to comply with the Executive Order. Please see the recently updated COVID-19 response page from the Library for more details. Just a reminder that the Library has an excellent collection of eBooks available through Overdrive, including popular fiction titles.

Additional Publishers Make Content Available

Johns Hopkins University Press announced last week that it is making all books and journals on Project MUSE open and available through May 31. This is an unprecedented move which makes 1,400 books and 97 journals openly accessible.

Archipelago Book, publisher of international literature is offering 30 of their titles for free until April 2nd.

Stay the Course re: Social Distancing

Infectious disease epidemiologist Jonathon Smith provides insight into the benefits of social distancing, even though we may not see immediate changes. If you have someone in your life who still doesn’t believe in the benefits of social distancing, this is a great article to share.

Virtual Fitness Classes

Cornell Fitness Centers is providing virtual group fitness classes starting today. Yoga, Zumba and other workouts are being offered.

Podcasts to Distract

The New York Times published a crowdsourced playlist of podcasts recommended to help distract you during this difficult time. You may even recognize one of the recommenders as someone you know (hint: it’s me! 😊).

Stay well, stay strong and stay in touch,

Mary Beth
