Central New York Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Team

The team provides high quality educational programs that address the needs of commercial agricultural producers in Chenango, Fulton, Herkimer, Madison, Montgomery, Otsego, Saratoga, and Schoharie counties. The team includes a Dairy Management Specialist, Livestock Specialist, Field Crops Specialist and a Farm Business Management Specialist. Educational activities provided by the Team to the agricultural community emphasize not only technical subject matter but also resource management and problem solving. Achieving profitability while meeting personal and business goals is stressed.

Nicole Tommell

Nicole Tommell is the farm business management specialist and team leader. She received her Bachelor of Technology degree from SUNY Cobleskill in Agricultural Business. She also holds a Masters in Agricultural Education from North Carolina State University.

Daniela Gonzalez Carranza

Daniela is the Dairy Management Specialist.  She earned her degree in Veterinary Medicine and enlisted in the Mexican Army as Veterinarian Soldier working with dairy cattle for two years. Subsequently, she worked on a dairy farm as a veterinarian and manager. At the same time, Daniela began as an independent consultant, collaborating with small and medium dairy farms in the community, allowing her to gain experience and interest in extension work.  Daniela earned her Master of Professional Studies degree from Cornell University in Animal Science with a concentration in dairy business management in 2023.

Ashley McFarland

Ashley McFarland is the livestock specialist.  She received her Animal Science BT degree at SUNY Cobleskill and BS at The Ohio State University. Previously, she was a herd health manager for a beef operation and worked for Agri-King Nutrition as a dairy nutrition consultant.

Erik Smith

Erik is the field crop specialist. Erik earned his BA from SUNY Oswego in Biology and his MS and PhD from Cornell University in Entomology.
