July sets all-time heat records across NEWA

July was a record-breaking month for NEWA member states. Locations throughout New England, the northeast, mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Western US broke or tied daily maximum temperature records that had been in place for over 100 years in some regions, according to the NOAA National Centers for Environmental information.

New Jersey broke and tied daily maximum heat records recorded 127 and 106 years ago, respectively. New England states broke or tied records that were last set 55 to 80 years ago. Mid-Atlantic and Midwest NEWA states, along with Utah, also set new temperature benchmarks in July 2020.
