Scouting windows for western bean cutworm are closing

Most locations in New York State have passed the 25% western bean cutworm flight completion threshold for egg mass scouting threshold according to the NEWA WBC model. Now is the time to evaluate your corn and dry beans if you haven’t already done so.

23 of 27 monitored counties across New York State have confirmed pheromone trap catches as of 3 August 2020. Cattaraugus, Madison, Stueben, and Ulster Counties do not as of 3 August 2020.

NEWA WBC estimated flight emergence values are only applicable when presence has been confirmed. Statewide WBC pheromone catch summaries can be viewed in the most recent NYSIPM Weekly Field Crops Pest Report or Sweet Corn Pheromone Trap Report, published by the New York State IPM Program.

Statewide western bean cutworm estimated flight completion on 3 August 2020 using the NEWA WBC model. Detection data is provided by a statewide collaboration of NYSIPM and Cornell Cooperative Extension Specialists and Educators who check and report pheromone trap catches on a weekly basis.
