Origin: Native to tropical America.
Biophysical Requirements: Tobacco is widely distributed and grows under a wide range of climatic conditions from Canada to the tropics. Leaf quality is dependent upon the environment of production.
Uses: This crop is grown for its leaves to be processed into cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, chewing tobacco, or snuff. It is a labor intensive, high value cash crop.
